Tour Highlights:
Lincoln Memorial - a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln and the nation he fought to preserve during the Civil War.
Vietnam Memorial - which serves as a testament to the sacrifice of American military personnel during one of this nation's least popular wars. The memorial consists of three distinct sections. The Wall, the three service men statue and flagpole, and the women in service to the Vietnam War statue. The purpose of this memorial is to separate the issue of the sacrifices of the veterans from the U.S. policy in the war, thereby creating a venue for reconciliation.
Korean Memorial - The Korean War Veterans Memorial honors those Americans who answered the call to take a stand against what was deemed a threat to democratic nations worldwide, those who worked and fought under the trying of circumstances, and those who gave their lives for the cause of freedom.
Marine Corps (Iwo Jima) Memorials - The Marine Corps War Memorial stands as a symbol of this grateful Nation's esteem for the honored dead of the U.S. Marine Corps. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in the defense of the United States since 1775.
The Tomb of the Unknowns - The Tomb of the Unknowns is near the center of the cemetery, and is one of Arlington's most popular tourist sites. The Tomb contains the remains of unknown American soldiers from World Wars I and II, the Korean Conflict and (until 1998) the Vietnam War. The Tomb is guarded 24-hours-per-day and 365-days-per year by specially trained members of the 3rd United States Infantry (The Old Guard).
President Kennedy's grave site and Eternal Flame - Kennedy is one of only 2 presidents buried at Arlington National Cemetery, the other is William Howard Taft. Kennedy's grave area is paved with irregular stones of Cape Cod granite, which were quarried around 1817 near the site of the president's home and selected by members of his family. Clover, and later, sedum were planted in the crevices to give the appearance of stones lying naturally in a Massachusetts field. Mrs. Kennedy had expressed a desire to mark the president's grave with an eternal flame similar to that of the French Unknown Soldier in Paris, which burns to recall sacrifice.

Tour guide "waffled" on too much which left us short of time at the Kennedy graves in Arlington. We had to dash from there over to see the Changing of the Guard. That was the highlight of our trip to Washington DC. Awe inspiring!

Bad bits first. Booked this trip online from the UK, had a very good experience, fast and efficient online service. The trip was confirmed by email for the 8th March 2008. As requested, we went to the booking office in New York one day before the day of the trip to collect the train tickets. Email in hand, I asked for our tickets only to be told (after 10 minutes and a phone call) that we were booked on the system for the 28th March. The confirmation email made no difference at all. We left not knowing quite what to do next. Ultimately (having made phone calls from our hotel) we were booked on the Sunday trip (9th March).
We could have done without the hassle.
Good bits.
The train ride, to us, was an experience in itself. The site seeing trip was well organised but to take in all there was to see needed more time. Arlington and Lincoln were first class.
Overall.
Putting our ticket problems aside, we had a great time. We had a five-day trip to New York, taking one day out to take this trip was well worthwhile.
My advice, if you are visiting New York and have the time get an organised trip like this one and go see a tourists view of America's capital.

We had problems in obtaining our lunch as most of the outlets were reluctant to take the vouchers. Also, most disappointed we were not taken past the White House as advertised.

It was ok.

It is not worth it for the money. Very quick bus tour with no time to take snaps. Should have a halt near Washington DC.
